Project Manager – Iconic Melbourne Venue

Location: Melbourne

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, commercially-astute Project Manager to take full ownership of a premier operational and relationship management contract at a landmark entertainment and hospitality venue in Melbourne
.

In this dynamic onsite role, you will serve as the primary face of the company, acting as a trusted advisor to key client stakeholders. You will bridge the gap between commercial strategy and hands-on leadership, managing an onsite trades team to deliver preventative maintenance, ad hoc works, and minor projects safely, profitably, and to an exceptional standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client & Relationship Management: Act as the primary representative of the company onsite, building trusted relationships with client departmental heads to understand future project pipelines and provide technical input for budgeting approvals.

  • Project Delivery: Manage the full project lifecycle—including tendering, mobilization, construction programming, and navigating building permits—for various projects up to approximately $300,000 (such as complex bathroom renovations).

  • Operational Leadership: Oversee daily work triage, job allocation, and an onsite team of approximately 6–9 staff (via Team Leaders), ensuring prompt mobilization for urgent, night, or weekend jobs to maintain client satisfaction.

  • Maintenance Transformation: Support the client's strategic shift from a reactionary maintenance model to a structured Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) model.

  • Workforce Planning: Organize and maintain the staff roster in alignment with EBA requirements, RDOs, and leave, while actively leading recruitment and onboarding to fill resourcing gaps.

  • Financial Oversight: Prepare timely quotes, review project profitability, manage subcontractor invoicing against purchase orders, and monitor staff hours using Clockify.

  • Safety & Compliance: Drive a zero-harm safety culture by conducting regular toolbox talks, preparing SWMS/isolation documentation, and ensuring 100% compliance with building codes.

What You Bring

  • Commercial Construction: Deep, proven experience estimating and profitably delivering commercial construction projects of varying complexity within budget.

  • Strategic Problem Solving: Strong flexible thinking and communication skills, with the ability to propose practical design and value-engineering solutions that save the client time, money, and inconvenience.

  • Leadership & Admin Skills: Demonstrated ability to mentor Team Leaders, manage subcontractors, write professional monthly performance reports.
